Project summary Serbia

The village Backi Vinogradi (1,500 inhabitants) in the area Subotica, Serbia, at the boarder of Hungary, has a high concentration of arsenic in the drinking water (one of the highest concentrations in Serbia). The drinking water users have a lot of physical complaints related to drinking water consumption. In 2011 an existing arsenic purification system (which was stored by the Foundation in Rumania) is transported to Serbia and the reconstructing of the installation started. Since 1st September 2012 the arsenic purification system is in operation. The official transfer of ownership of the purification installation to PUC Subotica, the local drinking water company, took place at 23th April 2013. With help of this arsenic purification system approx. 400m3/day of clean and reliable drinking water can be supplied. The coming 2 years by means of a SKADA system the performance of the purification system as well as the quality of the produced water will be monitored from Zwolle, the Netherlands
